Finding a kitchen island
The kitchen island has become one of the favored elements in the modern kitchen. Multi-purpose, convenient and space efficient, the island is automatically built in most modern homes.
Many households use the kitchen island frequently for cooking tasks; because of this islands are usually constructed with durable, smooth surfaces. If you don’t use your island for rolling out dough, or other cooking tasks that require a flat surface, you have the option of creating an interesting (though perhaps not as useful) feature.
For the nature lover a kitchen island with a large planter set in the center is a great option. Perhaps the planter could fill the center while 12” adobe tile edges leave the perfect amount of space along the sides for an eating and prep area.
How about a kitchen island with an integrated fountain? Natural stones could create a waterfall at one end that feeds into a small, blue tiled moat that flows around the perimeter. Or a large fountain set in the center can provide a unique ambience when entertaining with colorful, integrated lighting.
Another favorite is a kitchen island surfaced with small or large tiles. A single color or hand painted, the tiles can have separate images on each, or interact for an overall mosaic. The possibilities are limited only by your imagination.
A kitchen island of rough flagstones or smooth marble, the choice depends on what you will be using your island for. Do you want it to be a unique focal point in your kitchen or do you need it for food preparation? These are questions to ask when remodeling your kitchen.
