Kitchen exhaust hoods - keep your kitchen's air clean

Kitchen exhaust hoods are an easily overlooked necessity in any redecorating project. As anyone that has burned a piece of toast knows, exhaust hoods are a great way to keep from setting off the fire alarm.

The main purpose of kitchen exhaust hoods is to cleanse air of the grease, smoke, moisture and heat produced while cooking. Exhaust hoods are available in energy saving or traditional models and cleanse the air by exhausting it completely, tempering recycled air with outside air, or exhausting completely while bringing in completely outside air.

Kitchen exhaust hoods can also add a very interesting feature to your kitchen. There are many styles available, ranging from those that replicate antique hoods to very unique custom-made hoods in a variety of materials.

One popular style of kitchen exhaust hoods is a natural hammered copper hood with a visible exhaust flow and verdigris detailing trim. Copper and steel hoods can be polished to a shiny gleam and cut with minimal lines to add flair to a modern styled kitchen, or have a rough, hammered look with a patina finish for an antique feature.

The thing to remember when designing kitchen exhaust hoods is that they need to be able to withstand the heat and moisture of cooking. For this reason exhaust hoods are almost always metal and often coated with a finish that prevents moisture damage.

Kitchen exhaust hoods can be wall mounted or ceiling mounted and there are a variety of styles in each. Those that prefer to make a feature of their exhaust hoods often choose unpainted metal hoods that are fully visible. Those that don’t want the hoods to distract from the focal point of their kitchen often choose painted hoods obscured by cabinetry.

Whatever the design of your kitchen, don’t overlook the importance of kitchen exhaust hoods. They can be as subtle or as flashy as you like and are important to the functional use of your kitchen.
